Landscapingwalls, ponds & patios in Routt County

The part everyone sees. Stone, water and grass, built so it survives a Routt County winter and the spring after it.

What we do

Built for eight months of winter.

Frost heave, runoff and snow load undo landscaping that was only built to look good. We do the dirt work underneath properly, because we're the excavation crew too.

  • Ponds & water features

Ponds dug, shaped and lined, with the rock and planting to make them look like they were always there.

  • Retaining walls

Big-block and stone walls, terraced or tall, on a proper base with drainage behind them so they stay standing.

  • Stone & brick patios and walkways

Flagstone, pavers and brick, set on a compacted base so they stay flat through freeze and thaw.

  • Topsoil, seed & sod

Finish grading, topsoil, and seed or sod, including putting a lawn back after a dig.

Straight answers

What people ask.

The questions that come up at nearly every walk-through, answered the same way we'd answer them on site.

Where we work: Oak Creek, Phippsburg, Yampa, Stagecoach, Steamboat Springs and the rest of Routt County.

When is landscaping season here?
Roughly from when the ground thaws until it freezes again, so late spring through fall. The calendar fills from the front, so fall is a good time to get on it for next year.
Does my retaining wall need an engineer?
Tall walls, and walls holding up a driveway, a building or a slope, can need an engineer's design and a permit. Short garden walls usually don't. We'll tell you at the walk-through which one yours is.
Why do patios heave, and how do you stop it?
Water gets under them and freezes. The fix is underneath: a compacted gravel base that drains, deep enough for the ground here. That part is invisible when the job is done, which is why it gets skipped.
Can you put my lawn back after a dig?
Yes. Where it's worth it, we lift the sod before we dig and lay it back after. Otherwise it's topsoil and seed or new sod, whichever you'd rather.
